Fire Extinguisher Facts

Fire extinguishers have a long history: The concept of a fire extinguisher dates back 2,219 years to Ctesibius of Alexandria, who invented a hand pump used to extinguish fires by pumping water. It was later improved by Ambrose Godfrey, a German chemist, who invented a gunpowder-based fire extinguisher that expelled water. The modern fire extinguisher, made of copper and using compressed air, was invented in 1818 by British Captain George William Manby.

Fire extinguishers come in various shapes and sizes: Fire extinguishers are not one-size-fits-all. They are available in different shapes and sizes to meet diverse needs. The smallest fire extinguisher is a portable 1.5-pound version suitable for ATVs or cars, while the largest is a 350-pound wheeled extinguisher designed for use on oil rigs and boat docks.

Multiple brands manufacture fire extinguishers: Fire extinguishers are produced by several different companies. Each brand designs extinguishers with unique components, delivery systems, agent solutions, and features to distinguish themselves from the competition.

Different types of fire extinguishers serve specific purposes: In today’s world, various types of fire extinguishers are available to cater to different settings and fire hazards. Some common types include dry chemical, foam and pressurised water.

At Kego Ema Le Rona we take pride in making sure that your fire fighting equipment is compliant, fully charged, properly located, easily accessible, and ready for immediate use.
